Medical journal The Lancet blasts RFK Jr.’s health work as a failure

In a pointed editorial, the esteemed medical journal The Lancet has taken aim at Robert F. Kennedy Jr., labeling his first year as US Health Secretary a significant failure. The journal, renowned for its long-standing history and status as a reputable source of medical research, did not hold back in its assessment of Kennedy's performance, particularly his alignment with anti-vaccine rhetoric. Despite The Lancet's past involvement with controversial studies, including one by discredited former doctor Andrew Wakefield which falsely linked vaccines to autism, the journal has since retracted that study and remains a critical voice in public health discourse. Kennedy, who has maintained his stance against vaccinations and propagated various unfounded conspiracy theories, has faced severe backlash for his actions in office. The editorial board expressed deep concern over Kennedy's impact on public health, stating, "The destruction that Kennedy has wrought in one year might take generations to repair, and there is little hope for US health and science while he remains at the helm." This harsh critique underscores the board's belief that Kennedy's approach has jeopardized the well-being of Americans, particularly the most vulnerable, including children. Initially, upon assuming the role, Kennedy articulated aspirations for "radical transparency" and adherence to "gold-standard science." However, within days, he appeared to abandon these principles. His administration rescinded a long-standing policy that encouraged public comments on federal actions, dismissed expert advisors, issued health recommendations that contradicted established scientific evidence, and halted research on crucial health topics such as air pollution and cancer.
