The 5 job archetypes of the future, according to Claude Code's creator

As artificial intelligence reshapes the job landscape, traditional titles are evolving. According to Boris Cherny, the creator of Claude Code, roles in sectors like engineering, product development, and design are converging into new archetypes. Cherny recently shared insights on social media, outlining five distinct job archetypes that he believes will define the future workplace. He noted that many employees at Claude Code embody multiple archetypes, emphasizing the importance of a diverse team composition. The ideal mix may vary depending on the product's development stage and scale, Cherny explained. He posed the question of whether future product roles might resemble these new archetypes rather than adhering to the rigid, domain-specific structures of today. This sentiment is echoed by other leaders in the tech industry. For instance, Figma CEO Dylan Field mentioned that job titles are merging, with a trend toward everyone becoming a 'product builder.' In the evolving workplace, some leaders are even phasing out the term 'manager,' opting instead for more collaborative titles like 'player-coaches' and 'org leads.' Kun Chen, a former Meta and Microsoft executive, weighed in on Cherny's post, expressing concern that fixed archetypes could lead to complacency among workers. He encouraged professionals to remain adaptable as roles continue to shift. In response, Cherny agreed, highlighting that roles are dynamic and can change with projects over time. A discussion also emerged around the potential for AI to take over roles like 'builder' and 'sweeper.' Cherny reassured that Claude's capabilities extend beyond these archetypes, stating that the AI will evolve to enhance various roles in the workforce.
