Critical thinking vital in age of AI, Large Language Models: Zohos Director AI Research

In the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence and large language models, the importance of human critical thinking and reasoning remains paramount. Ramprakash Ramamoorthy, the Director of AI Research at Zoho Corp, highlighted that despite the remarkable productivity advancements brought about by these technologies, human intervention will continue to be crucial. Ramamoorthy pointed out that skills like prompt engineering are becoming increasingly important, and emerging frameworks will open up new opportunities in sectors such as legal and privacy technology. He emphasized that job roles are set to transform, urging individuals to embrace AI in a manner akin to the adoption of the internet in the past. "Critical thinking and reasoning will still be indispensable, even as AI and LLMs advance," he stated. He illustrated the significance of utilizing AI tools effectively by comparing it to a scenario where one person leverages Google search to improve project outcomes while another does not. "It's the same situation with LLMs today. It's essential to experiment with them to identify how they can be beneficial and where human expertise is still needed," he advised. This approach is vital for professionals to navigate the changing landscape effectively. Moreover, as companies encounter increasing complexities related to hardware—from acquiring GPUs to managing extensive data center requirements—skills in hardware will also become more sought after. Recently, Zoho introduced its proprietary large language model, Zia LLM, tailored specifically for enterprises within its product suite. This initiative underscores the ambition of Indian tech firms to create and innovate their own AI solutions in the global technology arena. Ramamoorthy noted that while popular models like ChatGPT and Gemini cater to consumers, Zia LLM is designed with the enterprise in mind, showcasing a strategic shift towards tailored AI applications for business environments.
