Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon predicts that the future of mobile is AI agent-driven

At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Qualcomm's President and CEO, Cristiano Amon, shared his insights on the transformative role of AI in mobile technology. He emphasized that we are moving beyond traditional chatbots and entering an era dominated by AI-driven agents that will redefine how users interact with their devices. Amon expressed his belief that the mobile operating system as we know it is on the verge of being replaced by intelligent agents. He stated, "The smartphone is currently central to our daily lives, but that's about to change as AI agents take the spotlight." His keynote highlighted the potential for these proactive agents to effortlessly understand human intentions and streamline user experiences by navigating application stores autonomously. He elaborated on how these agents could revolutionize our interaction with technology by simply requiring users to articulate their needs. This advancement, he noted, marks the dawn of a new age where AI can access the internet and perform tasks on our behalf. Amon also discussed the future of smart glasses integrated with AI, suggesting they could provide a seamless connection between the digital and physical worlds through what he referred to as "distributed intelligence." Moreover, Amon delved into the future potential of 6G technology, describing it as a comprehensive "sensing network" that will surpass mere internet speed. He explained that 6G will offer enhanced connectivity while simultaneously detecting objects, movements, and environmental conditions, thereby enriching the functionality of AI agents. He expressed optimism about India's potential to emerge as a global leader in AI innovation and manufacturing. Amon believes India is uniquely positioned to democratize AI across various sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and education, stating, "India has an incredible opportunity to leverage AI for the greater good, enhancing global welfare and accessibility to technology for everyone."
