OpenAI's president says AI has gone from writing 20% to '80% of your code'

The influence of artificial intelligence in software development is escalating at an unprecedented pace. During a recent discussion hosted by Sequoia Capital, Greg Brockman, the president of OpenAI, revealed that AI tools have made a significant leap in their coding capabilities. He stated that these advanced tools have evolved from composing just 20% of the code to now handling a remarkable 80%. Google CEO Sundar Pichai recently shared that AI now accounts for 75% of the new code produced internally, a significant increase from just 25% in 2024. Similarly, Meta anticipates that a majority of its engineers will rely heavily on AI for code generation in the near future. Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, predicts that the rate of AI-generated code will continue to soar, projecting that within a year, AI could be responsible for virtually all coding tasks.
