Texas AG sues Roblox, accusing it of prioritizing ‘pixel pedophiles’ over child safety

In a bold move, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against the popular online gaming platform, Roblox, citing serious concerns regarding child safety. Paxton's allegations claim that Roblox is misleading parents about the potential dangers their children face while using the platform. The Attorney General did not hold back, stating that Roblox prioritizes profits over the safety of minors, referring to it as a 'breeding ground for predators.' He emphasized the need for robust measures to protect children from individuals who exploit the anonymity of the internet. 'We cannot allow platforms like Roblox to continue operating as digital playgrounds for predators,' he asserted. This legal action adds to a growing list of lawsuits against Roblox, with similar cases already filed by attorneys general in Louisiana, Kentucky, and multiple cases in California, Texas, and Pennsylvania. Critics have raised concerns about the platform's inadequate safety protocols, which allegedly leave minors vulnerable to grooming, exposure to explicit content, and other harmful material. In response to these mounting pressures, various governments are enacting stricter regulations aimed at protecting young users. Initiatives like the U.K.’s Online Safety Act and Mississippi’s age-assurance law are part of a broader trend, with additional states such as Arizona, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Virginia exploring similar legislative measures. Roblox has acknowledged the concerns and has begun implementing a range of safety features. These include an age-estimation system that utilizes facial recognition technology, content and maturity labeling, and an AI-driven system designed to detect early signs of child endangerment. Furthermore, the platform offers comprehensive parental controls and tools to manage user interactions effectively. As of September 30, 2025, Roblox boasted 151.5 million daily active users. The company has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding the lawsuit and its implications for user safety.
