Tesla, the electric vehicle company led by Elon Musk, has officially commenced production of its highly anticipated autonomous ride-hailing vehicle, the Cybercab. This development signifies a crucial step in the company’s ongoing quest for self-driving transportation solutions. On April 24, Musk took to social media platform X to unveil a brief promotional video, announcing the start of manufacturing for the Cybercab. The clip showcases the driverless vehicle as it transitions from the factory floor to public roads, highlighting the company’s innovative approach to mobility. Musk captioned the video, "Cybercab has started production," underscoring the excitement surrounding this milestone. The 38-second video not only illustrates Tesla's vision for a fully autonomous ride-hailing service but also hints at ambitious deployment plans. In a follow-up post, Musk shared footage of several gold-colored Cybercabs moving in unison, suggesting a future where these vehicles could operate on a larger scale. In financial news, Tesla recently reported better-than-expected earnings for the March quarter, revealing a net profit of $477 million. During the earnings call earlier this week, the company reaffirmed its goal to initiate mass production of both the Cybercab and the all-electric Tesla Semi truck by 2026. Initially revealed in late 2024, the Cybercab is engineered specifically as a robotaxi, lacking traditional features like a steering wheel or pedals. Musk has indicated that the vehicle could be available for commercial use as early as 2027. Meanwhile, Tesla has already begun limited testing of its robotaxi services, providing select rides to users in Austin, Texas, since mid-2025. Additionally, the company shared an image earlier this year of the first Cybercab unit rolling off the production line at its Giga Texas facility.
