Tesla may need to temper its celebratory tone regarding the anticipated approval of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system in Europe. Recently, the company announced via social media that the Dutch regulatory body, RDW, was expected to approve the FSD feature by February 2026. This approval is critical for Tesla as it seeks to launch FSD across the European market. In the post, Tesla encouraged followers to reach out to RDW to express their enthusiasm for this development. However, RDW has since clarified its position, indicating that while discussions are ongoing, the approval is not yet finalized. According to a statement released by the agency, Tesla will need to show the FSD Supervised system in action come February, rather than receiving an outright approval. Bloomberg reported on RDW's clarification, which emphasizes the importance of safety in the regulatory process. The statement also noted that while both RDW and Tesla are aware of the necessary steps to reach a decision, it remains uncertain whether the proposed timeline will be met. Currently, Tesla vehicles are equipped with Autopilot, a standard driver assistance feature, and owners can upgrade to FSD Supervised for an additional $8,000, which offers more advanced capabilities. However, it is essential to note that FSD is not fully autonomous and requires drivers to maintain control at all times. The system is already available in several countries, including the United States, Canada, and Australia.
