Tesla adds ‘streaks’ and other stats to track how often drivers use Full Self-Driving software

Tesla has launched an innovative self-driving application designed to enhance user engagement with its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software. The revamped app provides Tesla owners with a streamlined way to subscribe to FSD services while also offering insightful statistics about their usage patterns. One of the standout features of the app is the introduction of multi-day usage streaks, which adds a fun, gamified aspect to the driving assistance experience. This announcement was made through a post on X, where Tesla also hinted at a range of other exciting features that will be included in the upcoming major software update. Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system, an advanced driver assistance technology that entered beta testing in late 2020, has seen continuous improvements through regular updates, focusing on enhancing reliability and performance. Available for a subscription fee of $99 per month, the FSD system is capable of executing various driving tasks including lane changes, parking, and steering. However, it is crucial to note that active driver supervision is still required, meaning the vehicles equipped with this software are not fully autonomous as of yet. CEO Elon Musk is positioning Tesla as a leader in AI and robotics, aiming to expand beyond traditional automotive manufacturing. A significant goal is to achieve 10 million active FSD subscriptions by 2035, which is tied to Musk's ambitious $1 trillion compensation plan. While the new app may seem like a minor update, its implications for increasing FSD adoption could be substantial. Previously, subscribing to FSD required multiple steps through the vehicle’s touchscreen or mobile app. The new design allows owners to subscribe with just one tap—although this feature is limited to Tesla vehicles equipped with the A14 chip, also known as FSD Hardware 4.0, which began rolling out in January 2023. With the updated app, users will gain access to a wealth of statistics that far exceed what current FSD subscribers can view. For instance, while existing users can see their total miles driven in relation to those using FSD, the new version includes graphical representations such as bar charts of FSD usage, as well as tracking user streaks for consecutive days of FSD use. The FSD (Supervised) system is currently available in several countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, and South Korea, with regulatory approval from the Dutch RDW received on April 10 after thorough testing and evaluation.
