The ongoing rivalry between Elon Musk and Sam Altman continues to unfold on Musk’s social media platform, X. Both were instrumental in founding OpenAI, but their relationship has soured, leading to public exchanges filled with barbs and accusations. The latest spat ignited when Altman shared a post he dubbed “a tale in three acts.” In it, he detailed his experience with reserving a Tesla Roadster back in 2018 and attempting to cancel his order recently. Altman expressed his frustration after his request for a refund on the $50,000 reservation fee resulted in a bounced email. "I really was excited for the car!" Altman lamented, adding, "And I understand delays. But 7.5 years has felt like a long time to wait." Originally unveiled in November 2017, the second-generation Roadster has faced numerous postponements. Musk, who leads Tesla, has indicated that a new version is expected to be revealed by the end of this year. In response to Altman's post, Musk took the opportunity to reiterate his criticisms of Altman and OpenAI. He remarked, "You stole a nonprofit," a comment he has made before, both on social media and through legal actions aimed at disrupting OpenAI’s transition to a for-profit model—a shift that has recently come to fruition while still keeping a non-profit arm in control. Musk has also ventured into the AI space with his startup, xAI, which is currently pursuing legal action against both OpenAI and Apple, alleging collusion to suppress competition. Altman countered Musk's claims, calling them "remarkable… given what I have heard alleged that Elon does to manipulate X to benefit himself and his own companies and harm his competitors and people he doesn’t like." Further complicating the narrative, Musk suggested that Altman’s portrayal of the situation was incomplete, implying that the refund issue had been resolved quickly. "And you forgot to mention act 4, where this issue was fixed and you received a refund within 24 hours. But that is in your nature," Musk quipped, adding another layer to their ongoing feud.
