Tesla slashes Cybertruck prices as it tries to move (unpainted) metal

In a bold move to invigorate sales, Tesla has significantly reduced the prices of its Cybertruck lineup. The much-anticipated tri-motor variant, dubbed the 'Cyberbeast,' now comes with a price tag slashed by $15,000, bringing it down to $99,990. However, this price reduction comes at a cost, as several previously complimentary features, including supercharging and full self-driving (FSD) capabilities, have been removed. Additionally, Tesla has introduced a new entry-level model priced at $59,990. This dual-motor configuration boasts an impressive range of 325 miles (523 km) and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0-97 km/h) in just 4.1 seconds, matching the performance of the higher-priced $79,990 premium all-wheel drive version. This new model offers a compelling option for potential buyers, especially considering last year’s single-motor rear-wheel drive variant was priced at $69,990 and lacked appeal. To achieve these lower prices, Tesla has implemented several changes. While the range and acceleration remain comparable to the more expensive dual-motor Cybertruck, the towing capacity has decreased from 11,000 lbs to 7,000 lbs, and the cargo capacity has dropped from 2,500 lbs to 2,006 lbs. The suspension system has also been altered, with steel springs and adaptive dampers replacing the air suspension. Moreover, the vehicle features distinct tail lights and a more basic interior, which includes textile seats but lacks the comfort of front row seat ventilation and second row seat heaters. Other modifications include a different console design, the absence of AC outlets in the cabin, and a reduction in the number of speakers, eliminating the active noise-cancellation feature.
