Teqram Installs America’s First AI-Powered Grinding Robot at AMP

In a significant milestone for the manufacturing sector, Teqram, a leader in robotic solutions for metalworking, has successfully deployed two AI-powered Easy Grinder systems at Accurate Metal Products (AMP). This installation marks the introduction of such advanced technology in the United States, highlighting Teqram’s dedication to enhancing robotic grinding capabilities within American industry. The decision by AMP to adopt two Easy Grinders at once demonstrates their commitment to innovation and operational efficiency. The systems are currently operational at AMP's facilities in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Rockford, Illinois, where they are expected to fast-track the company’s innovation initiatives and boost the processing of oxy-fuel and plasma-cut metal components. Frans Tollenaar, CEO of Teqram, praised the advancement, stating, "Teqram’s vision-guided automation improves the quality of finishing operations while reducing costs per part. The quick deployment of two systems at AMP showcases how swiftly fabricators can scale our grinding technology and highlights AMP’s role as a trailblazer in the industry." The Easy Grinder employs AI-enhanced 3D vision alongside Teqram’s proprietary control software, allowing it to autonomously scan and identify parts. The system then formulates the best strategies for handling, flipping, and processing, including automatic tool changes. By utilizing standard industry tools such as pneumatic chisels and angle grinders, it efficiently removes slag and lead-ins, rounds edges, and cleans interior diameters, ensuring consistent quality while minimizing manual labor. AMP's owner, Woody Alverson, emphasized the benefits of the new technology, saying, "These machines help us uphold the high standards our customers expect, while also easing the workload for our skilled tradespeople. This initiative is not about replacing jobs but rather enhancing precision and allowing our workforce to focus on more valuable tasks." Established in 1995 and certified to ISO 9001 standards, AMP serves original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) across various sectors, including mining, energy, agriculture, and defense. The company combines cutting-edge processing with modern automation at its two full-service Midwest facilities. The acquisition of the robotic systems was facilitated through Automated Fabrication Systems (AFS), Teqram’s North American partner, which has over 25 years of experience in automating fabrication processes. To further its reach in North America, Teqram will showcase its innovations at the upcoming Fabtech event in September. For more information, visit Teqram's website or AMP’s official site.
