This 16-year-old refused a $300,000 offer to drop out of high school and now runs his own AI company

In a remarkable turn of events, 16-year-old Rudrojas Kunvar faced a life-changing choice last year when a venture capitalist proposed a staggering $300,000 for him to leave high school and focus entirely on his AI startup. Reflecting on the offer, Kunvar, hailing from Germantown, Maryland, admitted, "It was definitely a rough couple of weeks of contemplating. That's a lot of money." Kunvar's journey began the previous summer when he developed Evion, an innovative AI tool designed for crop analysis. By utilizing images captured by affordable camera drones, which farmers can easily acquire, Evion generates a health map for crops. This intuitive system allows farmers to visualize crop conditions—green indicates healthy, while red signals issues—enabling them to make informed decisions about watering and fertilizing. The agricultural sector is experiencing a technological revival, with drones playing a pivotal role. As reported by Michigan State University, the number of registered agricultural drones soared from approximately 1,000 in 2024 to around 5,500 in 2025. Kunvar believes Evion can significantly reduce costs for farmers by providing targeted data, thereby minimizing waste and uncertainty regarding crop health. By positioning Evion as a budget-friendly alternative to expensive agricultural drone services, Kunvar empowers low to mid-scale farms. Farmers can simply purchase inexpensive camera drones, take their own images, and upload them to the system, fostering a more accessible approach. After launching Evion, Kunvar partnered with Jacob Lee, a tech tool expert, to broaden the startup's capabilities. Despite the tempting offer to drop out, Kunvar chose to prioritize accessibility over profit. The inspiration for Evion struck during a community festival, where he learned from local farmers about their struggles in predicting crop diseases. "Essentially, they were guessing," Kunvar recounted. "I realized there was a common thread among their responses. With the advancements in AI across various industries, I questioned why agriculture was lagging behind." Initially aiming to create autonomous drones, Kunvar shifted his focus after consulting with mentors. He identified the multispectral camera as a significant cost driver and wondered if he could achieve similar results using standard cameras. Drawing parallels with Tesla's camera-based autonomous vehicles, he redefined his approach. Through cold outreach and strategic partnerships with agricultural nonprofits, Kunvar successfully connected with farmers across North America, Southeast Asia, and India. Looking ahead, he envisions expanding Evion and exploring AI opportunities in diverse sectors. "Entrepreneurship is filled with uncertainty, but I've discovered beauty in that ambiguity," Kunvar shared. "Every small win reminds me that I can truly make a difference."
