President Donald Trump recently hosted a high-profile dinner at the White House, attended by some of the most influential figures in the technology sector. The guest list featured notable personalities such as Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, alongside several other executives from prominent AI and tech companies. With over 30 attendees, the atmosphere encouraged open dialogue, allowing guests to express their appreciation for the president's policies. Among those missing was Tesla's Elon Musk, who had a representative present due to a prior falling out with Trump. Nevertheless, the White House remains optimistic that Musk may reassess his stance towards the GOP. Earlier in the day, a new Artificial Intelligence Education task force, led by First Lady Melania Trump, convened with top executives from Google and OpenAI in attendance. Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, shared his enthusiasm for a collaborative project with the administration aimed at enhancing AI infrastructure, known as Project Stargate, alongside partners SoftBank and Oracle. "Your pro-business, pro-innovation approach is refreshing," Altman remarked to Trump, emphasizing the potential for long-term leadership in the global AI landscape. In addition to AI advancements, the U.S. Department of Defense recently awarded OpenAI a substantial $200 million contract to develop military applications of artificial intelligence. During the dinner, Zuckerberg, who previously had a contentious relationship with Trump, expressed gratitude for the gathering and highlighted the significant investments technology companies are making in the U.S. to drive innovation. Tim Cook also reiterated his commitment to the U.S. economy, announcing plans for a $600 billion investment in domestic manufacturing. He thanked Trump for fostering an environment conducive to major investments and technological progress. Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed a $1 billion commitment to education and job training in the U.S., which includes $150 million dedicated to AI-focused initiatives. Bill Gates, who has engaged with the Trump administration on global health issues, expressed appreciation for Trump's leadership during the dinner, acknowledging the impactful work of the tech leaders present. Other notable attendees included Alexandr Wang, former CEO of Scale AI, and Lisa Su, CEO of Advanced Micro Devices, who has publicly backed the administration's AI Action Plan.
