Tech stocks rebound after Trump says U.S. won't use military force in Greenland

On Wednesday, technology stocks experienced a significant rebound following President Donald Trump's announcement that military intervention in Greenland would not be pursued. This statement alleviated some of the geopolitical anxieties that had led to a worldwide market decline earlier in the week. Leading the charge in the tech sector were semiconductor stocks. Intel saw a remarkable increase of 11%, while Advanced Micro Devices and Arm Holdings enjoyed gains of approximately 9% and 8%, respectively. Additionally, Micron Technology and Marvell Technology both reported a rise of over 5%. The tech sector had faced a sell-off on Tuesday, prompted by Trump's announcement of new tariffs on eight nations opposing a U.S. acquisition of Greenland. This announcement came as global leaders gathered in Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum. However, Trump's tempered rhetoric on Wednesday provided a much-needed boost to investor confidence. Discussions surrounding a potential peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the Greenland acquisition, are reportedly among the key topics for Trump and his administration during their time in Switzerland. In other developments, Tesla and Nvidia each gained more than 2%, while Meta Platforms saw an increase of about 1.5%. Major companies like Amazon, Salesforce, and Apple also experienced slight upward movements in their stock prices.
