In a recent discussion on "The Ezra Klein Show," Clark revealed that he actively restricts his toddler's screen time due to concerns about algorithmic influences. Clark expressed his worries about the pervasive nature of technology, describing it as increasingly difficult for parents to navigate. He emphasized the importance of managing children's time with tech, sharing that while his child can watch select shows like "Bluey" on their smart TV, he has deliberately avoided allowing unrestricted access to YouTube's algorithm. For instance, Miranda Kerr and her husband Evan Spiegel have set boundaries for their son, restricting device usage after 9:30 PM. Similarly, Peter Thiel has limited his children's screen time to just 90 minutes a week, while Steve Jobs famously noted that his children had not used an iPad during its early years. Clark attributes his parenting style to his own upbringing, recalling how his father monitored his computer use, stepping in when he believed Clark had spent too much time in front of the screen. "My dad would let me play, but eventually, he'd say: Jack, you've had enough computers today. You're getting weird," he reminisced. As the conversation around AI continues to grow, Clark emphasizes the necessity for enhanced parental controls within these systems. He believes that as AI technology evolves, it will be vital to ensure that robust safeguards are in place, especially since children often seek access to platforms designed for adults. "We serve ages 18 and up today, but kids are smart, and they're going to try to get onto this stuff," he stated.
