TCS fresher hiring hits 25,000 in FY27, more depends on demand

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a prominent player in India's IT sector, has announced job offers for 25,000 fresh graduates for the financial year 2027 (FY27). The CEO and Managing Director, K Krithivasan, indicated that the company may expand its hiring if market demand warrants it. "We have made 25,000 offers for freshers in FY27. A clearer picture of demand will influence our hiring decisions," Krithivasan shared in an interview with PTI. Previously, TCS had onboarded over 44,000 fresh graduates in FY26, marking a significant recruitment milestone in the private sector that year. Krithivasan emphasized that the company's hiring strategy remains focused on fresh talent rather than experienced hires. He mentioned that fresh recruits typically undergo approximately nine months of training before they can contribute to projects, while lateral hires can make immediate impacts. Consequently, TCS’s future hiring will be contingent on business needs. In the company’s Q4 earnings report, Chief HR Officer Sudeep Kunnumal announced that annual salary increases would be implemented across all levels, starting April 1, 2026. "In Q4, we continued to invest in a future-ready workforce, enhancing our talent pool with experienced professionals and campus recruits. Fostering an AI-first culture and equipping our workforce with AI-related skills will remain a priority as we adapt to our customers’ changing requirements," Kunnumal noted. While TCS had previously disclosed a workforce reduction plan affecting about 2% of its employees, Krithivasan did not provide details about any expected restructuring. He assured that employees who consistently perform can anticipate a rewarding career at TCS. The company also reported a 12.12% rise in Q4 net profit, reaching Rs 13,784 crore, an increase from Rs 12,293 crore the previous year, with profits up 29% from the prior quarter.
