Tata Motors has unveiled the Tata Harrier EV in India, with an introductory price set at ₹21.49 lakh (ex-showroom). This launch signifies a pivotal move in Tata's strategy to enhance its electric vehicle (EV) offerings, aiming for a 50% market share in the EV sector through its subsidiary, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM). Built on the advanced Gen 2 acti.ev+ architecture, the Harrier EV provides two battery options: 65 kWh and 75 kWh. It boasts an impressive IDC range of up to 627 km, with expected real-world usage figures between 480 and 505 km. The SUV is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) system that produces 390 bhp and 504 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds. Additionally, it supports 120 kW DC fast charging, enabling a quick recharge from 0 to 80% in merely 25 minutes. Features such as regenerative braking, multiple drive modes (Eco, City, Sport), and a Boost Mode for enhanced torque delivery further elevate its performance. Visually, the Harrier EV maintains the striking SUV aesthetics of its internal combustion engine (ICE) predecessor while incorporating distinct EV-specific enhancements, including a closed grille, redesigned bumpers, aerodynamic alloy wheels, and updated lighting features. A special Stealth Edition with a matte black finish is also available, adding an extra layer of allure. The vehicle is equipped with cutting-edge technology to provide a fully connected experience. It includes iRA Connected Car Technology, which allows users to remotely manage climate control, charging, and location tracking via a smartphone app. Over-the-Air (OTA) updates for software and feature enhancements are also part of the package. Safety is prioritized with a robust Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), ensuring a secure driving experience. The Harrier EV also demonstrates its off-road capabilities, as showcased by its successful navigation of Kerala’s Elephant Rock, a challenging off-road trail reaching 3,937 feet in elevation. Starting from July 2, 2025, bookings will open. Tata Motors has decided to retain the Harrier name to capitalize on existing brand loyalty and transition current Harrier customers to the electric version. This launch further cements Tata Motors' position in the Indian electric vehicle market, offering a strong, feature-rich option in the expanding mid-size electric SUV category.
