From Rs 2 in Apr 2023 to Rs 14 in Aug 2025: Swiggy raises platform again, 4th hike in two years

Swiggy, the popular food delivery service, is set to increase its platform fee once again, just in time for the festive season. The fee will rise by ₹2, bringing the cost per order from ₹12 to ₹14. This change comes as the company experiences a surge in customer transactions during this busy time of year. Over the past two years, Swiggy has seen a dramatic escalation in its platform fees. Starting at just ₹2 in April 2023, the fee has progressively climbed to ₹6 in July 2024, then to ₹10 in October 2024, and now stands at ₹14. This latest adjustment represents a staggering 600% increase within a little more than two years. With Swiggy processing over 2 million orders daily, the fee hikes significantly contribute to the company's revenue, generating crores in additional income each day. However, Swiggy has yet to issue a statement regarding this latest increase. Financial documents reveal that Swiggy incurred a net loss of ₹1,197 crore in the June quarter of FY26, nearly double the ₹611 crore loss reported during the same period in FY25. On a quarter-to-quarter basis, losses amounted to ₹1,081 crore in Q4 FY25. The financial pressure is largely attributed to its quick commerce division, Instamart. In the competitive landscape, Swiggy and its rival Zomato have both experimented with raising platform fees during peak demand days, often retaining these increases as customer volume remains strong. Zomato, too, has implemented five fee hikes in less than two years, totaling a 400% rise. The commission rates of both companies, which can reach as high as 35%, have resulted in restaurant partners raising their menu prices. This has led to online orders costing over 50% more than traditional dine-in experiences. Furthermore, both Swiggy and Zomato are facing backlash for not improving working conditions for their delivery personnel, even as they continue to hike customer fees.
