Super Micro plans to ramp up manufacturing in Europe to capitalize on AI demand

In a strategic move to capitalize on the surging demand for artificial intelligence, Super Micro has announced plans to boost its investments in Europe. CEO Charles Liang shared insights during an interview with CNBC, highlighting the company's intention to enhance the manufacturing of its AI servers within the region. Super Micro, known for its servers equipped with Nvidia chips essential for training and deploying large-scale AI models, currently operates manufacturing facilities in the Netherlands and is considering further expansion elsewhere in Europe. "The demand in Europe is growing rapidly, and we have already formulated a plan to increase our investment, including manufacturing capabilities," Liang stated at the Raise Summit held in Paris. This announcement follows Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's recent tour of Europe, where he secured infrastructure agreements and encouraged the region to enhance its computing capacity. The demand for AI technology has skyrocketed, particularly after the popularity of OpenAI's ChatGPT, significantly boosting the need for Nvidia’s chips. Despite Super Micro's stock reaching record highs in March 2024, it has since faced a decline of approximately 60% from that peak due to concerns regarding its accounting practices and financial disclosures. The company addressed some of these issues by filing its delayed financial report for the 2024 fiscal year earlier this year, which helped to alleviate investor concerns. While the company reported lower-than-expected guidance for the current quarter in May, Liang remains optimistic about their growth trajectory. "Our growth rate continues to be robust, as we advance our core technology and broaden our business scope. There is still significant potential for expansion ahead," he asserted.
