Sumble emerges from stealth with $38.5M to bring AI-powered context to sales intelligence

In the fast-paced world of sales, understanding a prospective customer is crucial, and Sumble, a San Francisco-based startup, is stepping up to the challenge. Aiming to provide more than just raw data, Sumble focuses on delivering essential context by scouring various online platforms, including social media, job boards, and company websites. Founded by Anthony Goldbloom and Ben Hamner, who previously established the data science community Kaggle, Sumble leverages a knowledge graph powered by large language models. This innovative approach connects diverse data points to offer a holistic view of a company's technological landscape, revealing details such as the tools used across departments, ongoing projects, organizational structures, and key contacts. Since its launch in April 2024, Sumble has made a significant impact, signing 17 enterprise clients, including notable names like Snowflake, Figma, and Elastic. With tens of thousands of total users, about 30% have opted for a Pro subscription, showcasing strong demand primarily driven by word of mouth. While Sumble has refrained from disclosing exact revenue figures, reports indicate a remarkable year-over-year growth of 550%. Goldbloom noted a viral trend within companies, where usage can escalate from a single user to hundreds in a matter of months, often beginning in informal settings like Slack channels. The startup recently emerged from stealth mode after securing $38.5 million in funding. This includes an $8.5 million seed round led by Coatue and a $30 million Series A round spearheaded by Canaan Partners, with additional investments from notable figures and firms. Goldbloom emphasized the importance of customer quality and retention in attracting investor interest. Despite the competitive landscape featuring established players like Apollo.io and HubSpot, Goldbloom believes Sumble's unique knowledge graph gives it a substantial advantage. Covering approximately 2.6 million companies globally, the graph's richness enhances its defensibility against competitors. As the demand for AI solutions grows, Sumble is poised to integrate large language models into its offerings, allowing users to extract contextual information seamlessly. The service is currently available as a web app and API, with a premium plan that provides additional features such as workflow integrations and notifications for relevant prospect developments.
