Voice AI startup Subtle has introduced a groundbreaking pair of wireless earbuds designed to enhance clarity during calls and improve transcription for notes. This launch comes just ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, with the company aiming to ship these innovative earbuds across the U.S. in the coming months. Priced at $199, the earbuds will include a one-year subscription to an app compatible with iOS and Mac. This app allows users to effortlessly take voice notes or engage in conversations with AI without needing to press any buttons. Notably, Subtle has integrated a special chip that enables the earbuds to activate an iPhone even while it is locked. In a competitive landscape featuring AI-driven voice dictation applications like Wispr Flow, Willow, Monologue, and Superwhisper, Subtle's earbuds promise to let users dictate across various apps seamlessly. The company asserts that its product will produce five times fewer transcription errors than AirPods Pro 3 when used in conjunction with OpenAI’s transcription model. During a demonstration witnessed by TechCrunch, the earbuds showcased their ability to effectively capture audio in a noisy environment, even picking up a voice note while Subtle's co-founder and CEO, Tyler Chen, spoke in a whisper. Chen emphasized the growing trend of voice as a primary interface, stating, “People are increasingly adopting voice for a more natural interaction compared to traditional keyboards. However, voice is seldom utilized in shared spaces. Our noise isolation model aims to change that by offering a voice interface through our earbuds.” Additionally, Chen highlighted that the earbuds, in conjunction with the app, are designed to amalgamate various functionalities, such as dictation, AI chatting, and voice note-taking, all within a single solution. Pre-orders for the earbuds are available on Subtle’s website, with options in both black and white. Having raised $6 million in funding, Subtle is collaborating with consumer tech companies like Qualcomm and Nothing to enhance its noise isolation models.
