This popular model is exclusively available with all-wheel drive, reflecting Subaru's commitment to delivering all-weather reliability and catering to an adventurous lifestyle. The latest iteration introduces a hybrid variant that not only enhances power and torque but also marks a significant milestone as the most efficient Crosstrek ever produced. While aerodynamic refinements are minimal, features like wheel well vents help mitigate turbulence and optimize airflow along the vehicle's sides. Subtle design changes, such as the streamlined edges of the roof rail mounts, contribute to a more aerodynamic profile. Interestingly, the reduced use of plastic cladding in the hybrid model results from production decisions in Japan, rather than a design choice aimed at improving aerodynamics, as American consumers often favor more substantial trim. The real game-changer lies in the Crosstrek's hybrid powertrain, now shared with the Forester SUV. Unlike many hybrid crossovers that utilize a single electric motor at the rear, Subaru's approach maintains a fully connected mechanical all-wheel-drive system. The primary motor-generator replaces the starter motor, facilitating smoother auto stop/start functionality and enabling the gasoline engine to charge the compact 1.1-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery.
