US Ambassador Sergio Gor calls for deeper India-US collaboration in AI

During the India Today Conclave 2026, themed "The Intelligence Exchange," US Ambassador Sergio Gor emphasized the necessity for a more profound collaboration between India and the United States, particularly in the realms of technology, trade, and strategic security. He underscored the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) as a central focus of this partnership amidst the evolving global technological landscape under the Trump administration's new phase. Gor remarked on the current trajectory of US-India relations, stating, "Around the world, these forces are testing institutions and reshaping economies. But in the relationship between the United States and India, we’re witnessing something different. Instead of breakdowns, we are seeing breakthroughs." He highlighted AI as a critical factor in determining which nations will lead in economic growth and innovation in the coming era. “Artificial intelligence is transforming the global economy at an unprecedented pace. The nations that effectively adopt and deploy these technologies will define the future of growth and innovation,” Gor noted. He encouraged India to collaborate closely with American AI enterprises and technological frameworks, enabling both countries to develop sophisticated systems while safeguarding their data sovereignty. “Instead of attempting to construct every aspect of the technology stack independently, let us join forces. Collaborative partners are vital for unlocking the wealth that AI can generate for everyone involved,” he stated. Gor also discussed the increasing investments from companies such as Micron Technology in India, asserting that these investments bolster supply chain resilience and promote advanced manufacturing within the country. He pointed out that American firms and Indian talent can synergize to create the industries of tomorrow. Additionally, Gor introduced the Pax Silica initiative aimed at strengthening the semiconductor supply chain in partnership with trusted nations, highlighting India's inclusion as one of the first countries invited to participate, which signifies the US's recognition of India as a pivotal technology ally.
