In a remarkable fusion of fashion and gaming, a designer from Singapore has unveiled an extraordinary piece of wearable tech: the Air SNES, a pair of Nike trainers featuring a fully operational Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). This innovative creation, crafted by Gustavo Bonzanini, celebrates the 35th anniversary of the beloved gaming console. Choosing the iconic Nike Air Max 90 as his base, Bonzanini has transformed these classic shoes into a portable gaming device. The trainers showcase the recognizable grey and purple color scheme that evokes nostalgia among fans of the 1990s gaming era. However, the Air SNES is more than just a stylish design. Bonzanini's engineering prowess shines through as the sneakers are not merely decorative but fully functional for gaming. By utilizing emulation technology instead of traditional game cartridges, he has ingeniously integrated a Raspberry Pi Zero W computer into the tongue of the shoe, loaded with the 'RetroPie' emulator to enable gameplay of classic SNES titles. To enhance the gaming experience, the design includes innovative connectivity options. A small analogue converter allows the console to link to a television screen via RCA cables, preserving that authentic retro feel. While the system is compatible with an original SNES gamepad, the designer has upgraded it with an '8BitDo kit' for seamless wireless Bluetooth play. Powering this unique device is a compact battery pack that provides around 30 minutes of gaming enjoyment on the move. The Air SNES exemplifies both a love for retro gaming and cutting-edge design. Bonzanini has made it clear that this custom creation is a one-of-a-kind piece, not available for commercial sale, emphasizing its exclusive nature.
