In a surprising turn of events, Stellantis has decided to abandon its plans for an electrified 4xe plug-in hybrid version of the Jeep Gladiator, which was initially slated for release in North America by the end of 2025. The company has confirmed that this model will no longer be part of the Jeep lineup as it reevaluates its product strategy. According to an official statement from Stellantis, shifting customer preferences played a significant role in this decision. "The Jeep Gladiator will maintain its rugged design and style into 2026 while incorporating exciting new features right from the factory," the statement elaborated. The Gladiator will continue to stand out as the industry’s only open-air pickup truck, blending legendary Jeep 4x4 capabilities with everyday practicality. As consumer desires for battery-electric vehicles evolve, Stellantis is reconsidering its approach and will exclude the electrified Gladiator from future offerings. The brand is already reallocating resources to ensure the Gladiator's sustained success, promising to introduce more factory-requested features, customization options, and new powertrain alternatives shortly. This news follows Stellantis's recent announcement regarding another cancellation: the development of a battery-electric full-size pickup under its Ram brand. The automaker indicated that this decision was primarily driven by weak demand for large battery-electric trucks. Instead, Stellantis plans to focus on creating an extended-range truck, which will utilize a combination of battery power and a gas generator to achieve an impressive estimated range of 690 miles.
