Starlink, the satellite broadband service founded by Elon Musk, is making significant strides in the Indian market by collaborating with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). This partnership will enable Starlink to utilize Aadhaar for customer verification, simplifying the onboarding process through secure and efficient paperless KYC procedures. The agreement comes after the Indian government approved Starlink’s plans to deliver satellite internet services nationwide. With current capabilities, Starlink anticipates onboarding approximately 2 million customers. Under this collaboration, Starlink has been recognized as both a Sub-Authentication User Agency and a Sub-eKYC User Agency, with the official signing taking place in the presence of notable UIDAI officials, including CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar and Deputy Director General Manish Bhardwaj. By integrating Aadhaar, which is considered one of the most reliable digital identity frameworks, Starlink aims to enhance the customer experience while adhering to India's regulatory standards. Importantly, customers will have the option to use Aadhaar voluntarily, aligning with existing regulations. This partnership also underscores the growing significance of India’s digital infrastructure in attracting international players. An official statement highlighted the synergy between Starlink’s advanced satellite technology and India’s trusted digital identity system, marking a pivotal moment for both entities. In addition to its work with UIDAI, Starlink is also collaborating with telecom giants Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio to expand its services to homes, businesses, and institutions across India. The combination of satellite connectivity and Aadhaar e-KYC is expected to facilitate the rapid adoption of high-speed internet, even in the most remote areas of the country.
