On September 15, 2025, SpaceX's satellite internet service, Starlink, encountered a significant global outage, as reported by Reuters. The company has acknowledged the disruption on its official website, stating, "Starlink is currently experiencing a service outage. Our team is investigating." However, no additional specifics regarding the cause of the outage have been released. Starlink, which operates through a network of low-Earth orbit satellites, is especially popular in remote areas and regions affected by conflict. According to Downdetector, an outage monitoring platform, the United States has suffered the most from this disruption. The issues reportedly began at approximately 10:09 AM IST (12:58 AM EDT), with over 31,000 users reporting problems. Among those affected, around 60% experienced internet connectivity issues, while 40% were completely offline, and 1% noted poor signal reception. The outage map on Downdetector indicated widespread network disruptions across major cities, including Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Seattle, and Chicago. Frustrated users quickly took to social media platform X to voice their concerns about the Starlink service interruption. One user, @bravewarriorttv, expressed their exasperation, writing, "Another Starlink outage AGAIN… Thought it was just me. Now I see everybody is having problems too." Another user lamented, "ugh, my Starlink is down again…" Meanwhile, some users directly tagged Elon Musk, seeking answers about the service issues. In related news, Starlink has announced plans to implement Aadhaar authentication for customer verification in India, as reported by PTI. This move follows the Indian government's approval for Starlink to provide satellite-based broadband services in the country. According to a recent statement, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has onboarded Starlink Satellite Communication Pvt Ltd, which will utilize Aadhaar authentication to ensure a smooth and secure customer onboarding process.
