Spotify spotted working on a ‘SongDNA’ feature that showcases the people behind your favorite music

Spotify is currently in the process of developing an innovative feature known as "SongDNA," which aims to enhance the way users discover music by highlighting the credits associated with their favorite tracks. This intriguing feature was uncovered by reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong, who managed to extract screenshots illustrating how SongDNA would function within the app. The proposed SongDNA feature would offer users a visually engaging experience, allowing them to navigate through the credits of songs and albums. Users could see the connections between various contributors, including writers, producers, vocalists, and engineers, thereby facilitating a deeper appreciation of the collaborative nature of music creation. For example, Wong showcased how Rei Ami, a member of the "KPop Demon Hunters" cast, had lent her voice to multiple tracks beyond those featured in the film. If launched, SongDNA could position Spotify to compete with TIDAL, which already offers interactive credits that let users explore the contributing artists behind their favorite songs. The feature could serve as a valuable tool for music industry professionals seeking new collaborators or for fans eager to learn more about the talent involved in music production. Shortly after Wong shared the screenshots on social media, Spotify updated its app, removing references to the SongDNA feature. When contacted for additional information, Spotify declined to comment but did not deny the existence of the feature. Further validation came from Chris Messina, another reverse engineer, who confirmed the presence of SongDNA in the app's code. He noted that the lines of code imply the feature would unveil the network of contributors behind each track, enabling users to explore their broader body of work. While some speculate about whether SongDNA could be Spotify's version of Pandora's Music Genome Project, early indications suggest that it focuses primarily on the individuals behind the music rather than the musical traits themselves.
