Spotify’s new SongDNA feature maps how your favorite songs are connected

Spotify has officially launched an innovative feature known as SongDNA, aimed at enhancing the way listeners engage with music. Available to Premium users on both iOS and Android, this interactive tool allows fans to delve into the intricate connections of their favorite songs. With SongDNA, users can uncover a wealth of information beyond just the artist, songwriter, or musician. The feature enables fans to explore various aspects of a song, such as covers, samples, interpolations, and the collaborative projects of the artists involved. This enhancement builds on the existing "About the Song" feature, giving listeners a deeper understanding of the creative network surrounding their preferred tracks. For music industry professionals, SongDNA serves as a valuable resource, helping them identify potential collaborators, producers, and engineers. The feature also elevates the visibility of those working behind the scenes in music production, granting them greater recognition in the streaming landscape. TechCrunch previously reported on Spotify's development of SongDNA, following discoveries made by reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong, who found references to it in the app's code. The feature was confirmed for launch in early 2026, building on data from the community-driven music database WhoSampled, which Spotify acquired last year. Competing with TIDAL’s interactive credits, SongDNA combines collaborators, samples, and covers into a single platform, making it easier for fans to explore new music and understand the connections between songs. Jacqueline Ankner, Spotify’s Head of Songwriter & Publisher Partnerships, emphasized the feature's role in recognizing the contributions of songwriters, producers, and rightsholders in the creative process. Currently in beta, SongDNA is being rolled out to Premium users worldwide, with the full rollout expected to conclude by April.
