Spotify wants to become the home for AI-generated personal audio

In recent years, various applications have emerged, allowing users to craft podcasts from pre-existing content such as documents and schedules. Now, Spotify is stepping into the arena with a new feature that enables users to generate personalized audio content directly within its platform, albeit with some programming know-how. The streaming giant has announced that individuals who utilize coding tools like OpenAI’s Codex or Anthropic’s Claude Code can now leverage Spotify’s new command-line interface (CLI) tool, currently in beta, to create and import their podcasts into the app. According to a blog post from Spotify, the demand for personalized audio experiences is growing, with users wanting to transform their daily notes and schedules into audio format. Spotify highlighted that users are increasingly using AI agents to create tailored audio guides, ranging from study notes to calendar briefings. “People are asking for a way to listen to it on Spotify, where they already consume a variety of content,” the company stated. Once generated, these podcasts will be stored in the user’s Spotify library for easy access, although they will remain private and not accessible to other Spotify users. To utilize this new feature, users can visit the tool's GitHub page for setup instructions and will need to log into their Spotify accounts through a web browser. After setting up, users can create prompts for their AI agents, such as requesting an audio session that explores the World Cup's history, complete with details on key players and important insights for the current year. Once the podcast is generated, users will receive a link to their unique Spotify listing, allowing them to enjoy and share their creations.
