Spotify has officially introduced Audiobook Charts for both the U.S. and U.K. markets, as announced on Friday. This new feature mirrors the popular Music and Podcast Charts, providing weekly updates that showcase the most listened-to audiobooks across various genres. The rankings are determined by user engagement and listening habits on the platform. Accessible to all users, whether on free or paid subscriptions, the Audiobook Charts can be easily found within the audiobooks hub of the app. To locate them, users simply need to tap the search button, select the "Audiobooks" tile, and scroll to the "Dive deeper" section. This initiative signals Spotify's ongoing commitment to the audiobook market, following its embrace of the format in 2022. The company has been steadily enhancing its audiobook offerings, including the recent introduction of the "Page Match" feature, which allows users to scan a page from a physical book to jump directly to that section in the audiobook. Additionally, the platform has rolled out "Audiobook Recaps," providing brief audio summaries to keep listeners informed about the content they have already consumed. According to Duncan Bruce, Spotify’s Director of Audiobook Partnerships and Licensing, the new charts will serve both readers and authors by facilitating the discovery of popular titles. This move is expected to create fresh opportunities for authors and the publishing sector to engage with broader audiences. Bruce emphasized the importance of accessibility in increasing demand, stating, "As we’ve proven with Music and Podcasts Charts, when content is easier to access, discover, and enjoy, the demand grows." Moreover, Spotify's interest in literature extends beyond audiobooks. Earlier this month, the company announced plans to enable users in the U.S. and U.K. to purchase physical books directly through the app, thanks to a partnership with Bookshop.org.
