Spotify is taking personalized music experiences to the next level with the introduction of its new 'prompted playlist' feature. Launched recently for premium subscribers in the U.S. and Canada, this innovative tool leverages artificial intelligence to help users curate playlists based on their feelings or cherished memories. According to Sulinna Ong, Spotify's global head of editorial, feedback from listeners revealed that while they enjoy playlists, the process of creating their own can often be overwhelming. To address this, the new feature allows users to choose specific activities, such as a high-energy workout or a relaxing evening, and receive tailored song recommendations. In addition to activity-based playlists, users can refine their selections by specifying certain artists or music eras. The feature is currently in beta and is set for a broader rollout by the end of the month, following successful testing that began in December 2025 in New Zealand. Notably, these prompted playlists can be set to refresh automatically on a daily or weekly basis, complete with descriptions for each song. In related news, Spotify announced a price increase for its premium subscription in the U.S., effective February, raising the monthly fee from $11.99 to $12.99. This follows the December launch of music videos for premium subscribers in both the U.S. and Canada, further enhancing the platform's offerings.
