Spotify adds AI-powered Q&A and briefing generation features to podcasts

Spotify is set to revolutionize the podcast landscape with its latest feature that allows users to create personalized podcasts using artificial intelligence. By leveraging a user’s ideas or specific prompts, this initiative aims to transform the way listeners engage with audio content. Earlier this month, Spotify introduced a command-line tool on GitHub, enabling users to craft their own podcasts using Claude Code and Codex. Soon, this capability will be integrated directly into the Spotify app, allowing users to easily save their creations to their personal library. Additionally, users will have the option to schedule regular briefings on topics of interest, whether daily or weekly, or create unique episodes focused on specific subjects. For instance, users can request a podcast like, "Update me on local concerts from my favorite artists," or, "Summarize economics in five minutes," which will then be saved for their convenience. Moreover, the feature will allow the inclusion of links, PDFs, and text, and users can select custom voices for their generated podcasts. In tandem with this, Spotify has launched a new desktop application named Studio by Spotify Labs. This app can connect with users' calendars and emails to generate customized briefings. Additionally, an AI-powered Q&A feature is being rolled out for Premium mobile users in the U.S., Sweden, and Ireland, allowing them to inquire about podcast episodes or concepts while receiving tailored recommendations. This development follows Spotify's earlier efforts to enhance user engagement with video podcasts, which saw a remarkable 50% increase in streaming year-on-year. With these new features, Spotify aims to deepen user interaction with its platform, reminiscent of Google’s recent introduction of Ask YouTube. For podcast creators, Spotify is enhancing its sponsorship tools to better facilitate brand partnerships, and is introducing subscription options for unlocking exclusive content and experiences. This move aligns Spotify with social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Snap, which provide similar monetization opportunities for content creators.
