Spotify to raise Premium subscription price in multiple regions from September

Spotify has revealed plans to hike the cost of its Premium Individual subscription across various global markets beginning in September. The monthly fee will rise from €10.99 to €11.99 in regions such as South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific. Subscribers can expect to receive email notifications outlining the price increase in the upcoming month. This decision is part of Spotify’s larger strategy aimed at enhancing its profit margins. This follows previous price adjustments and a series of cost-reduction measures that have contributed to the company achieving its first annual profit in 2024. Although Spotify experienced growth in both monthly active users and paying subscribers during the second quarter, it also reported a quarterly loss linked to increased taxes associated with employee compensation. This tax burden has prompted a more cautious profit forecast for the third quarter. To diversify its offerings and attract a wider audience, Spotify has been expanding its video content through its Partner Program. This initiative provides podcast creators with monetization tools, resulting in a significant increase in contributors and a boost to the platform’s video library. Furthermore, Spotify is beginning to reap the benefits of regulatory changes in the United States. Following a court ruling that prevents Apple from charging a commission on off-app purchases, Apple has approved an update to Spotify’s app that includes subscription pricing and external payment links. CEO Daniel Ek noted that this change has led to a “very positive uptick” in the US market, and he expressed optimism that similar regulatory developments in Europe and the UK could further advantage Spotify and its competitors. Spotify’s platform now boasts an impressive total of seven million podcasts, which includes over 430,000 video podcast titles, alongside more than 350,000 audiobooks available for one-time purchase. As of June 2025, the company employs 7,309 full-time staff worldwide.
