Spotify is taking a bold step to enhance the concert-going experience for music superfans with the introduction of its new feature, "Reserved by Spotify." Announced on Thursday, this innovative system identifies dedicated fans of artists and holds two tickets for them prior to the general ticket sale. Launching initially in the U.S. for Premium subscribers aged 18 and older, this feature aims to give true fans a better chance at securing their spots at live events. The first artist to utilize this ticket-holding mechanism is Role Model, who will kick off the initiative in conjunction with his upcoming tour. Starting June 23, fans will begin receiving notifications regarding their reserved tickets before they are made available to the public. Notably, Spotify has confirmed it will not impose any additional fees on these transactions. Currently, the Reserved feature is exclusive to artists performing at Live Nation venues, with ticket sales being processed through Ticketmaster. However, Spotify has plans to expand the program to include more artists and venues, including smaller locations and international markets in the future. The motivation behind this initiative is clear: to combat the growing problem of scalpers who use automated tools to snatch up tickets, only to resell them at inflated prices. By introducing Reserved, Spotify not only hopes to reward loyal fans but also strengthen engagement within its platform, encouraging users to maintain their subscriptions. Fans will be incentivized to regularly log into the app, knowing they might have a chance at exclusive tickets to see their favorite artists. When it first proposed the idea in May, Spotify indicated that it would analyze user engagement through metrics such as streams and shares to identify genuine fans. The platform is also implementing measures to prevent misuse of the system, ensuring that fans cannot exploit it through artificial means such as bots or repeated listening. As Spotify aptly states, simply leaving music playing in the background will not improve a user's chances. Additionally, the system will consider the user's geographical location before making any ticket offers, ensuring that fans are near the concert venue. Once the feature goes live, eligible fans will see tailored offers displayed directly on their Spotify Home screen, complete with tour information and reminders for ticket purchasing. It’s important to note that due to demand, there may be more superfans than available seats, meaning not everyone will receive a ticket offer for every show. Role Model's tour, which spans 17 cities in the U.S., is just the first of many planned tours to take advantage of this new system, as Spotify prepares to unveil a series of additional artist partnerships in the coming weeks. This latest development complements other live music features on the platform, including support for artists to upload performance videos alongside their regular music content.
