Spotify has officially expanded its innovative AI-powered feature, "Prompted Playlists," to Premium subscribers across the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and Sweden. This rollout follows successful trials in New Zealand and previous launches in the U.S. and Canada. The Prompted Playlists feature allows users to craft personalized playlists by simply articulating their musical desires in their own words. Rather than sifting through individual songs or artists, users can describe the mood, setting, or inspiration they seek, and Spotify's AI handles the rest. To create a playlist, users need to click on "Create," select "Prompted Playlist," and then enter their request in English. The AI is designed to grasp various themes, such as emotions, aesthetics, and even nostalgic memories. Prompts can range from broad concepts to specific requests, touching on musical genres, activities, lyrics, instruments, or even themes inspired by movies or significant life events. Additionally, users can indicate whether they prefer new music or tracks from their existing library. Once a prompt is submitted, Spotify's AI curates a unique playlist based on the user's request, leveraging their listening history and aligning with current music trends. Furthermore, each song comes with a brief explanation, providing insight into its selection for that particular playlist. Users have the option to refine their playlists by modifying their prompts or starting anew. For those whose music preferences change frequently, Spotify offers the ability to schedule playlists to refresh automatically on a daily or weekly basis. As the feature is still in beta, Spotify has acknowledged that adjustments may be made based on user feedback, and there are currently some usage limitations in place. Reports indicate that some users have encountered limits after submitting around 20 to 30 prompts. In addition to Prompted Playlists, Spotify has been integrating AI across its platform, including features like Page Match, which allows users to scan book pages to access corresponding audiobook sections, and the enhanced song lyrics feature that provides global translations and offline access. Recently, Spotify also partnered with SeatGeek, enabling users to find concert ticket links directly on an artist's page within the app. Co-CEO Gustav Söderström noted that the company has been leveraging AI so effectively that many of its top developers haven't needed to write code since December. Furthermore, Spotify is venturing into physical book sales, allowing users in the U.S. and U.K. to purchase physical copies directly through the app.
