Spotify is set to raise its Premium subscription fees in the United States, increasing the monthly charge from $11.99 to $12.99. This change will take effect starting with February billing, impacting users in the U.S., Estonia, and Latvia, as announced in a recent blog post by the streaming service. Subscribers can expect to receive an email notification within the next month detailing this price adjustment. Spotify indicated that the hike is necessary to "keep delivering a great experience" to its users. This marks the second price increase for U.S. customers in just a few months, with the last adjustment occurring in June when the rate was raised to $11.99 from $10.99. Despite a strong performance in their third-quarter earnings report, Spotify's fourth-quarter revenue expectations fell short of what analysts had predicted. The company is also navigating a significant leadership transition, as co-founder Daniel Ek stepped down as CEO at the beginning of January. He has passed the reins to co-CEOs Gustav Söderström and Alex Norström, a change that was announced in September. As Spotify continues to evolve by integrating artificial intelligence and enhancing its podcast and video offerings, it faces backlash from various artists. Notably, several groups, including King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Deerhoof, Hotline TNT, Xiu Xiu, and Massive Attack, have opted to withdraw their music from the platform in protest against Ek's investments in the defense technology company, Helsing.
