Spotify’s prompted playlist feature will now work for podcasts, too

Spotify has announced an exciting expansion of its AI-driven feature, Prompted Playlist, which now includes podcasts in addition to music playlists. Initially tested in New Zealand last year, this innovative feature has made its way to countries like the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and Sweden, allowing premium users to create tailored podcast playlists. To get started, users simply tap on 'Create' and select the 'Prompted Playlists' option. They can then enter a prompt such as, 'Make a playlist of True Crime podcasts I would enjoy, including highly rated series with unexpected twists.' Furthermore, users have the flexibility to choose how often their playlists are updated, with options for daily or weekly updates, or even a static list. Each time a new episode is added to the playlist, users will receive a brief note explaining its inclusion. Lizzy Hale, Spotify's Global Head of Podcast Editorial, emphasized the feature's potential, stating, 'Podcast fans are always looking for their next great listen. Prompted Playlist makes discovery feel effortless and personal.' This initiative not only enhances user experience but also offers content creators new avenues for audience engagement. Spotify reports that over 34 million podcasts are discovered weekly on its platform, highlighting the need for improved podcast discovery tools. The company is committed to making the podcast experience more user-friendly, evidenced by its recent decision to lower monetization criteria for video podcasts. Now, creators only need to have three published episodes, 2,000 consumption hours in the last 30 days, and at least 1,000 engaged listeners to qualify for monetization. As of February, there were over 530,000 video podcasts available on Spotify, showcasing the platform's growth in this area.
