Attention is currently focused on SpaceX's anticipated initial public offering, which is set to be the largest in history, alongside its CEO Elon Musk. However, another publicly traded entity within Musk's expansive portfolio is capturing interest: Tesla. With a market capitalization of approximately $1.26 trillion, Tesla is seen by many as a potential partner for SpaceX in the future. Musk, who is also at the helm of Tesla, has positioned the company as a leader in AI and robotics, despite the fact that the majority of its revenue is generated through electric vehicle sales. A potential merger with SpaceX is perceived by some as a crucial step toward realizing this ambitious vision. Gwynne Shotwell, the president and COO of SpaceX, has expressed a degree of openness to this idea. During a recent interview with CNBC, she mentioned that such a merger “might make Elon’s life a little easier.” This statement has further fueled speculation about the two companies joining forces. Evidence suggests that SpaceX may already be laying the groundwork for such a merger. The company recently updated its S-1 registration document in preparation for its public listing, including new language in the risk factors section that addresses potential mergers and acquisitions. The addition states, “We may issue a significant amount of equity in connection with future transactions,” signaling to investors a potential for future equity dilution, which typically indicates a significant deal like a merger with Tesla. It's worth noting that Musk has a history of integrating various elements of his business ventures. Earlier this year, SpaceX acquired Musk's AI firm, xAI, which in turn had acquired his social media platform, X, through an all-stock deal the previous year.
