A large meteor is visible from much of Ohio and parts of neighboring states

On Tuesday morning, residents across northern Ohio and neighboring states were treated to a stunning celestial display as a large meteor streaked through the sky, creating a brilliant fireball and a thunderous boom. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the meteor's bright trail, which was visible over a broad area. Jared Rackley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pennsylvania, captured video footage of the meteor as it descended, generating an impressive fireball. Fortunately, there have been no reports of the meteor impacting the ground as of yet. The meteor's trajectory was tracked by a near-infrared optical detector on a geostationary satellite at precisely 9:01 am ET (13:01 UTC). This advanced technology indicated that the meteor passed over northern Ohio, just west of Cleveland, and continued its path over Lake Erie. In astronomical terms, a meteoroid becomes a meteor when it enters a planet's atmosphere, resulting in a spectacular light display. This particular event was notable because the meteoroid was traveling at hypersonic speeds, far exceeding the speed of sound. The resulting “boom” was a product of a shockwave created as the meteoroid compressed the air around it, leading to a series of sonic booms and a deep rumbling sound.
