Ground system issue scrubs first launch of SpaceX’s Starship V3 rocket

SpaceX was on the brink of launching its advanced Starship V3 rocket on Thursday, reaching the countdown mark with just 40 seconds remaining. However, a technical issue with the launch tower thwarted the mission, pushing the launch to at least another day. As storm clouds dispersed over the SpaceX launch site in South Texas, the atmosphere brightened, providing ideal conditions for the launch. The company had initially postponed the liftoff by an hour, yet the countdown seemed to progress smoothly as propellants were loaded into the rocket. Unfortunately, the countdown was halted just 40 seconds before the scheduled launch time. The launch team made several attempts to resume the countdown, but the system repeatedly halted the clock. Ultimately, after five delays, SpaceX decided to stand down from the attempt. Dan Huot, a representative from SpaceX, informed viewers during the live broadcast, "It is sounding like we are not going to be able to clear this issue in time today." Elon Musk, SpaceX's founder and CEO, identified the cause of the delay as a hydraulic pin that failed to retract on an umbilical arm connected to the rocket. He noted on social media that if the issue could be resolved quickly, another launch attempt could take place the following day, with a 90-minute window opening at 5:30 PM CDT (22:30 UTC). This upcoming flight will be significant as it marks the first launch from a newly constructed pad at Starbase, Texas, which has been operational for a year. The Starship V3 test flight will represent the 12th full-scale trial of the Starship and its Super Heavy booster, showcasing several enhancements including 39 upgraded Raptor engines, a revamped propulsion system, and a new arrangement of grid fins for improved aerodynamics.
