Here are 5 wild stats from SpaceX's first week on the Nasdaq

Following its record-setting initial public offering (IPO) last week, SpaceX has quickly become a focal point on Wall Street, propelling Elon Musk into the spotlight as the world's first trillionaire. The company’s IPO raised an astounding $75 billion, more than double the previous record set by Saudi Aramco in 2019, which initially raised $25.6 billion. The sheer scale of SpaceX's greenshoe allotment, which alone contributed $10.7 billion, dwarfs other significant tech IPOs, including Uber's $8.1 billion and Facebook's $18.4 billion. In a playful nod to the greenshoe option, SpaceX employees donned green shoes on the trading floor during the IPO's debut. Musk, holding approximately 46% of SpaceX shares, now possesses a stake valued at over $1 trillion, alongside his significant investments in Tesla. Despite this monumental achievement, not everyone views Musk's soaring wealth positively. Prominent progressive figures, including Senator Bernie Sanders and Senator Elizabeth Warren, have highlighted the growing wealth disparity in the U.S. amid rising inflation. Concerns regarding SpaceX's governance have also emerged, with some investors expressing reluctance to purchase shares due to perceived weaknesses from a minority shareholder perspective. In its first week as a public entity, SpaceX experienced unprecedented trading volumes, with $85 billion worth of shares changing hands on its opening day, followed by nearly $46 billion on Monday and almost $68 billion on Tuesday. This trading activity surpassed that of leading exchange-traded funds and even outpaced tech giants like Nvidia and Apple. As SpaceX's share prices soared, so did its market capitalization, which briefly surpassed Amazon's before settling at $2.66 trillion. However, the financial fundamentals tell a different story, as SpaceX's revenue falls significantly short of Amazon's, which generated 38 times more sales last year. Furthermore, SpaceX is currently operating at a loss. In a bold move shortly after its IPO, SpaceX announced a formal agreement to acquire AI-coding startup Cursor for $60 billion in stock, further solidifying its ambitious expansion plans. This acquisition, expected to close in the third quarter, marks one of the largest in the tech sector's history, following SpaceX's prior merger with Musk's AI venture, xAI, which was valued at $1.25 trillion. As the tech landscape shifts, SpaceX's IPO and subsequent actions continue to captivate investors and spark discussions about the future of technology and market dynamics.
