The SpaceX IPO just created one of the biggest wealth events in Silicon Valley history. Here are the winners.

The recent public offering of SpaceX has sparked one of the most significant wealth events in Silicon Valley history, significantly enriching those who have supported Elon Musk's vision over the years. The IPO began trading on Friday, transforming years of private investment gains into substantial public wealth for employees, executives, early investors, and venture capitalists. Leading the pack is Elon Musk, whose holdings include approximately 849 million Class A shares and 5.57 billion Class B shares. With the initial share price set at $150, Musk's stake is valued at around $750 billion, making him the world's first trillionaire when combined with his Tesla shares, valued at around $280 billion. Antonio Gracias, an early investor and member of Musk's inner circle, is the second-largest beneficiary of this IPO. Through his investment firms, he owns over 500 million shares of SpaceX, equating to about 7.3% of the Class A stock, valued at approximately $75 billion at the opening price. Gracias expressed gratitude for this milestone, emphasizing the importance of SpaceX in advancing human industry. Google, which invested around $900 million in SpaceX back in 2015 for a 7.64% stake, saw its position soar to a staggering $132 billion within the first hour of trading, marking it as one of the most successful venture investments ever. Additionally, Google holds about 14% of Anthropic, another company poised for a major IPO later this year, potentially leading to even larger returns. Longtime Musk supporter Luke Nosek, a PayPal alum, has nearly 33 million Class A shares, amounting to around $5 billion at the opening valuation. Nosek was pivotal in securing the first institutional investment in SpaceX while at Founders Fund and has continued to support the company through subsequent ventures. Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX's president and COO, has been a steadfast partner since 2002. Her shares are now valued at nearly $2 billion, positioning her among the wealthiest self-made women in America. Meanwhile, CFO Bret Johnsen, who joined in 2011, has played a crucial role in the company’s financial strategies, seeing his stake worth about $1.4 billion at the IPO launch. Lastly, Ira Ehrenpreis, a venture capitalist and former Tesla board member, has a stake worth approximately $205 million. Many other venture capitalists and asset managers have also supported SpaceX throughout its journey, positioning them for significant gains as the company steps into the public market spotlight.
