SpaceX, the aerospace company founded by Elon Musk, is poised to invest a substantial $2 billion into his artificial intelligence startup, xAI. This investment is part of a larger equity round totaling $5 billion, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. This move represents the first financial commitment from SpaceX towards xAI and marks a significant step in strengthening the ties between Musk's various enterprises. In addition to the equity investment, the deal includes an extra $5 billion in debt financing, with Morgan Stanley reportedly advising on the fundraising efforts. Following its recent merger with Musk’s social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), xAI now boasts a remarkable valuation of $113 billion. The integration of xAI's Grok chatbot into SpaceX’s Starlink customer service is just the beginning, with plans for further applications, including potential deployment in Tesla’s humanoid robots, Optimus. While Tesla is also contemplating investment in xAI, Musk has indicated that any such decision would require approval from the board and shareholders. This collaboration across Musk’s ventures showcases his ongoing strategy of leveraging interconnected resources and technology, linking X, Tesla, and SpaceX. Despite some recent controversies surrounding Grok's responses, including allegations of antisemitic content, Musk has stood by the chatbot, asserting it as “the smartest AI in the world.” As xAI continues to invest in its training infrastructure, it aims to position itself competitively against industry giants like OpenAI.
