OpenAI's latest innovation, Sora, a video app that allows users to create dynamic content, has quickly garnered immense interest. However, the company is currently restricting access to the platform, leading to a surge in demand for invite codes. Each new user is given four codes to distribute among friends, but with limited availability, some users are looking to profit by reselling these codes. Just hours after Sora's launch, Business Insider uncovered over 20 completed transactions on eBay for these coveted invite codes, with prices ranging from $10.99 to nearly $45. According to eBay's regulations regarding digital items, selling unauthorized software keys is prohibited, but it remains unclear how these invite codes are classified. In response to the growing issue, OpenAI has issued a warning on its official Sora 2 Discord channel, advising users against selling invite codes. The message emphasized adherence to server rules and caution against unsolicited messages, highlighting that code sales on the platform are against their terms of service. OpenAI’s user agreement explicitly prohibits modifications, copying, leasing, selling, or distribution of its services. Despite requests for clarification, an OpenAI spokesperson has yet to respond. Sora is powered by the advanced Sora 2 model, which boasts enhanced realism and control compared to previous iterations. Currently, the app is available only in the US and Canada on the Apple App Store, with plans for an Android version in development. As of Wednesday afternoon, Sora has climbed to the third position among free apps in the Apple store, following ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.
