SOND, a sleep tech startup from Bose’s former head of sleep, exits stealth with $7M

A Boston-based startup, SOND, is revolutionizing the sleep technology space with its innovative earbuds designed to actively enhance sleep quality. Emerging from stealth mode, the company has secured $7 million in funding and is set to launch its flagship product, the Dreambuds. Co-founded by MIT graduates, including the former Head of Global Sleep at Bose, SOND aims to transform how users approach sleep. The Dreambuds are not just ordinary sleep earbuds; they are equipped with a closed-loop system that captures 12 physiological signals from users in real-time. This includes metrics such as heart rate variability and snoring patterns, which are then analyzed by a cloud-based AI sleep coach. This coach customizes audio programs to optimize sleep based on the individual’s unique responses. The initial funding for SOND comes from several prominent investors, including the MIT-affiliated E14 Fund and Boston Scientific co-founder John Abele. The technology behind Dreambuds allows users to interact with the AI coach verbally, seeking insights or specific audio programs from a diverse library of over 500 options. For those who prefer a different sound experience, the earbuds also support podcast streaming. Yadid Ayzenberg, SOND's CEO and former Bose executive, expressed his excitement about the venture, highlighting the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of sleep technology. He noted that the Dreambuds are not just an evolution of Bose’s previous offerings but rather a complete reimagining of sleep earbuds that focus on integration with users’ physiological data. The design of the earbuds is noteworthy; sensors are visibly placed to create an artistic aesthetic, while providing high-fidelity sound through advanced drivers. Users can review their sleep data and patterns through a companion app, gaining insights that help them improve their sleep strategies over time. With plans for mass production by Q2 2026 and a forthcoming crowdfunding campaign, SOND is on track to make significant strides in the sleep tech industry. The company is currently accepting reservations for Dreambuds through its website, paving the way for a new era of personalized sleep solutions.
