SoftBank shares slide over 8% amid renewed pressure on AI-linked stocks

On Friday, shares of Japan's SoftBank Group experienced a significant drop of over 8%, continuing a downward trend fueled by growing investor skepticism about the high valuations in the AI sector. SoftBank, which has substantial investments in various AI-related companies spanning infrastructure, semiconductors, and applications, saw its stock tumble following a turbulent week. Just a day prior, SoftBank's shares had seen a slight rebound, gaining nearly 3%. However, this was overshadowed by a sharp decline earlier in the week, where they plummeted by 10%, marking the steepest fall since April. The overall atmosphere in the tech market remained grim, leading to losses for several other Japanese technology firms. Notably, Advantest, a semiconductor testing equipment manufacturer, saw its shares decrease by over 6%, while Renesas Electronics, a chipmaker, fell nearly 4%. Additionally, Tokyo Electron, which produces chip-making equipment, experienced a dip of 1.46%. Investors are closely monitoring the situation for any further developments.
