'AI will enhance work, not replace it': Snowflake to hire 700 in India by 2025, says Vijayant Rai

In a recent discussion with Business Today, Vijayant Rai, Managing Director for India at Snowflake, revealed ambitious plans for the company's growth in the region. The AI data cloud firm aims to boost its workforce in India to over 700 employees by 2025, reflecting its significant expansion in the market over the last five years. Snowflake collaborates with a range of prominent enterprises and digital businesses, including IndiGo, Razorpay, Swiggy, and Bajaj Allianz, to facilitate large-scale data and AI integration. Rai stressed the importance of partnerships with major firms like Deloitte, EY, TCS, LTIMindtree, AWS, and Microsoft as a core part of their strategy. To address the growing need for skilled professionals, Snowflake has teamed up with NASSCOM to offer training for 100,000 students and professionals in AI and data skills over the next two years. Rai pointed out that India serves as a critical engine for Snowflake's global growth strategy, with AI expected to contribute an astounding $1 trillion to the Indian economy by 2035. Reflecting on Snowflake's milestones, Rai noted that the company has strengthened its presence in India, opening new offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru, while expanding its Pune Center of Excellence. Snowflake's AI Data Cloud is designed to benefit a wide array of sectors including BFSI, manufacturing, and retail, by fostering collaboration and innovation through efficient data management. Discussing client partnerships, Rai highlighted the transformative impact of Snowflake's technology on businesses like Swiggy, which utilizes the platform for real-time data analytics, and Grow Indigo, which has drastically reduced its reporting time and improved efficiency through AI. Addressing concerns surrounding automation and job displacement, Rai reassured that AI will not replace jobs but will enhance the roles of professionals. He envisions a future where repetitive tasks are automated, allowing data scientists and analysts to focus on more strategic and impactful work. Rai concluded by emphasizing the necessity of continuous skill development in India to keep pace with the evolving AI landscape. With a vision aligned with India's ambition to become a leading economy, Snowflake is committed to nurturing talent and driving innovation in the region, ensuring that Indian developers play a pivotal role in the global AI revolution.
