Snapchat users complain about losing friends and streaks vanishing

Snapchat is grappling with ongoing issues stemming from a recent AWS outage, leaving many users frustrated and disconnected. The popular social media platform experienced significant downtime, paralleling disruptions across a large portion of the internet. While it was anticipated that Snapchat would recover quickly following AWS's resolution of the technical difficulties, reports on outage-tracking site Downdetector indicate otherwise. At approximately 3:12 AM ET, the site recorded over 21,000 outage reports for Snapchat, with a subsequent spike around 8:57 AM ET seeing more than 10,000 new reports logged. A staggering 62% of users reported problems with the app, while 34% experienced server connection issues, and 4% faced website difficulties. Although a similar trend is beginning to show on Downdetector's Indian page, it remains less pronounced. Social media has been flooded with complaints from users unable to access the platform or facing issues with specific features. Many have expressed distress over lost Snap streaks, with no official word from the company about potential restoration. Additionally, users have noted that friends have seemingly vanished from their contact lists. One Reddit user lamented, "Snap was down in some places due to the AWS outage. I lost some data on Snap, and it’s all bugged—can't use it." Another echoed the concern, stating, "Yeah, same. Everyone’s gone. My Snap Map is bugged, I can’t add anyone. It shows everyone as ‘not found.’ I contacted them, hopefully they reply." Others have also reported that their Snap memories are missing from the app, and some are still unable to send snaps to friends. In response to the outages, AWS announced that it has resolved the underlying DNS issues, affirming that most services are now functioning normally. However, some requests may still face throttling as they work towards a complete resolution.
